The coalition was originally established
over 10 years ago to coincide with the "Shots Across Texas"
campaign that was launched in 1993 by the Texas Department of State
Health Services [TDSHS] to boost Texas’ lagging immunization rates. After
several successful years supporting the campaign, which ended in 1996,
the coalition suspended activities.
Efforts to re-establish the coalition were initiated in 2006 by Retired
and Senior Volunteers Program [RSVP] and their Seniors/Volunteers for
Childhood Immunization [SVCI] program in partnership with the Denton
County Health Department.
Betsy Haggard, Public Education Officer and Education Coordinator for the
Denton County Health Department, was elected chair of the coalition at
their first group meeting, August 31, 2006.
Tim Underhill, Health Technician at Denton County Health Department, assumed the role of coalition chair June 14, 2010.
